Tiny pellets make antiretroviral medicines more palatable for children
Children affected by HIV and AIDS will benefit from the decision by the United States Food and Drug Administration to grant approval to a new antiretroviral formulation that can be mixed with food to make it easier for children living with HIV to take the life-saving medicines, UNAIDS and UNICEF said today.

By 2015, an estimated one out of every two people living with HIV in the United States will be over 50. In fact, the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC, 2012) estimated that the number of people living with HIV over 50 was greater than the
number under 34 years of age. While 50 may not seem “old” to most of us, many studies have found that age cutoff to be
clinically significant. The “graying” of HIV raises important questions for the care and management of HIV through the
aging process.

Thailand could prevent more than 5,000 HIV-related deaths in the next decade if it expanded HIV testing and treatment among gays in Bangkok, where about one in three males who have sex with men is infected, researchers said.
